Key to the literary and artistic circle celebrated as the Bloomsbury Group, the two artists were inspired by the London post-Impressionist exhibitions organised by their close friend Roger Fry, and were in the vanguard of British responses to Cubism and other modernist European movements. Their creative partnership lasted throughout their artistic lives, centring on Charleston, the Sussex house they shared.
