Royal Albert Hall Tour
The Royal Albert Hall is one of the most well known concert halls in the world hosting about 390 shows of all kinds annually. It has been the venue for the BBC promenade concerts since 1941.
This tour will tell you about the history of the building, for instance how the dome was created in Manchester and brought to London by horse and cart, in pieces. How the dome was assembled and raised to its current position. Then before all the supports were removed, virtually all staff vacated the building, in case it collapsed.
We will hear about the initial acoustics problem and the persistent echo. Also how the hall coped with lighting thousands of gas jets before it became electrified. We will also have an opportunity to visit the Royal Box and see behind the scenes at the hall.
