Regent Canal Walk- A London Walk

Mile End to Limehouse

This walk will take you far from the London madding crowd to nearly 200 years back when time ran to the pace of the horse drawn canal barges.

At one time the Regents Canal Limehouse Dock was the gateway to the whole of the UK canal network.  And what an impressive gateway – 10 acres of water, 4 acres of quays and wharves plus the entry lock to the Thames, 2 miles below London Bridge.

You will be shown tiny details that open up that age and era and which explain the workings of the canals. Nowadays they are part of the Docklands Light Railway System. The DLR is a completely automated, elevated, cutting edge transport system – in huge contrast to the canals.

Your guide will be a member of the IWA (Inland Waterways Association) who knows the canals really well.
