Music at the Institute – The MZ Duo

 

The MZ Duo is a London–based ensemble formed by Canadian saxophonist David Zucchi and Spanish accordionist Iñigo Mikeleiz-Berrade.  Their repertoire spans everything from reimagined traditional works to modern pieces and improvisation, all vividly rendered by the unique combination of saxophone and accordion.

Members of the Leatherhead Community Association or the Leatherhead Music on Thursdays group get a reduced price ticket for this event.  Young people (under 26) also get a reduced price.

Ticket are £15 full price, £13 for members and £5 for people under 26. You can book them online from ticket tailor.  You can also buy tickets in the LCA office at the Institute on weekday mornings.

Since their debut concert at the Vale de Cambra Classical Music Festival (Portugal) in 2019, the duo has performed across the UK and Europe, including appearances at Wigmore Hall, Edinburgh Fringe, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Barnes Music Festival, Newbury Spring Festival, Music@Malling, Rye Arts Festival, Buxton International Festival, the Rosengart Museum (Lucerne), St. George’s Bristol, and the Daylight Music series (Union Chapel, London). They have appeared on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune with Sean Rafferty, and have been residents at Music at Brel and Ferrandou Musique. The duo is dedicated to the generation of new repertoire for their instrumentation, and have collaborated with composers including Robin Haigh, Aileen Sweeney, Roxanna Albayati, Brian Elias, Benjamin Oliver, Michael Hughes, and Alex Paxton. New commissions and projects for the duo have been supported by the Marchus Trust, City Music Foundation, the RPS Susan Bradshaw Composers’ Fund, the Nicholas Boas Charitable Trust, and the Vaughan Williams Foundation.

Doors open at 7pm.  The programme is about two hours long including a twenty minute interval.  We do not have an alcohol licence but if you are of age you are welcome to bring your own. There are supermarkets nearby. Please bring plastic glasses or use the glasses that we supply.  We also supply tea and coffee.

 

Getting to the Leatherhead Institute

The Institute is at the top of Leatherhead High Street, KT22 8AH, on the corner with Leret Way. Leatherhead is served by bus from Kingston and by bus and train from Guildford, Dorking and Epsom. Nearby car parks are the Swan Centre multi-storey on Leret Way (KT22 7JL) and the surface car park on Station Road (KT22 7AF). Both are free after 6pm.
