Ranger Led Walk on Ashtead Common

A fantastic opportunity to learn more about the Common including its history and ecology today

Ashtead Common was bought by The City of London Corporation in the 1870’s due to concerns that the countryside around London was being threatened with development. It benefited citizens giving them access to green fields and clean air.

It now comprises 495 acres including a National Nature Reserve and it has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is home to over 2,300 ancient oaks which are full of character and provide shelter for rare wild life and fungi.

We will hear about the work Rangers do to manage and conserve this precious habitat and see the remains of a Roman tile factory and a Roman villa on the Common – scheduled ancient monuments.
